McSherry Halliday Welcomes Newest Team Member

We are delighted to announce that we have recently welcomed Maeve, our new receptionist, through the Kickstart programme.

Maeve, who has a keen interest in law, has joined our growing team and we wish her the best of luck in her new role!

What Maeve has to say about her new role –

“ Starting a new job comes with a range of feelings, for me it was a mixture of excitement and nervousness. I have always had an interest in the law since a young age which was influenced by my Grandfather. I left education early to have a family which took up a lot of my time and attention. Once my children reached school age, I went through the Kickstart Scheme to gain more skills and confidence to help pave the way into the world of work. I had many doubts that I would be able secure work in law, being a single mother of two young boys, I felt it would be difficult to find the right fit.

The Kickstart Scheme helped me look into the world of work in more depth. I gained confidence that in fact it is possible to strike the correct work/home life balance. Kickstart staff arranged an interview with McSherry Halliday solicitors which was held on video call, due to the ongoing pandemic. My interviews were conducted by Alan and Louisa, who both eased my nerves with their kindness and understanding. I feel the interviews went smoothly and I was surprised how effectively the video call worked for the interview rather than face to face interaction, which I would have been used to.

My first day with the firm went really well! Starting work as a Receptionist and Administration Assistant, meant  I was nervous when I walked through the door, but after a few minutes the warm welcome I received from staff members put me at ease. Everyone was very friendly, accommodating and understanding that I needed guidance to learn. Louisa was a brilliant help on my first day as she steered me in the right direction with setting up login details, informing me who everyone was, what their role was and offering any additional help I required, with answering calls and my general duties.

As my first week progressed, so did I. I became more confident communicating with clients and members of the firm. As time went on I was learning more and more about each department at McSherry Halliday solicitors and familiarising myself with terms used that, at first, I didn’t understand. I feel that within the first week at McSherry Halliday I gained more skills and developed the skills I already had. I look forward to coming into work and for me, that’s a brilliant bonus in any workplace setting.”
