Over the festive period our offices will be closed from 12 noon on Friday 21st December and re-open at 9am on Thursday 3rd January.
Seasons greetings! As the holiday approaches, we want to inform valued clients and potential new customers of our opening hours and Christmas activities.
Following our success at the Law Awards of Scotland several years ago, where we were named Scotland's Law Firm of the Year (under 40 fee earners), we are delighted to be nominated again in this year's Law Awards of Scotland.
For the sixth consecutive year, McSherry Halliday is proudly supporting the Ayrshire Hospice in their ‘Make a Will Fortnight’ and, to date, we have raised over £18,000 for the campaign. Instead of paying our solicitor’s fee, clients are invited to make a donation to the Hospice. This year’s scheme runs from 17th until 31st October 2016 and if you are interested in participating, you can contact us direct between these dates to have a pack sent out to you. When enquiring, please quote “Ayrshire Hospice Make a Will Fortnight.”
McSherry Halliday’s Trainee Solicitors, Louisa Doole (left) and Gill Middleton (right), have recently participated in a Careers Fair at St Matthews Academy in Saltcoats. The Careers Fair was organised for S1-S6 pupils and encouraged pupils to explore careers they are interested in. At their law stall, Louisa and Gill interacted with the pupils to give them an insight into what can be expected when undertaking a law degree and life as a Trainee Solicitor. McSherry Halliday is keen to support these activities as it is important to share experience and expertise with pupils early in their academic careers and for pupils to have access to information about higher education. Exposing children of all ages to the world of work can broaden their perspectives and spur them to more interesting and productive careers.
Two Glasgow University law students performed extremely well in a client consultation competition in Canada this week, coming second place overall. The International Client Consultation Competition was held in Windsor, Ontario, with Scotland being represented by Gillian McGarry and Ilaria Moretti, both of the University of Glasgow Diploma in Professional Legal Practice programme. The students had previously won the Scottish finals of the competition. The team was trained by Mike Graham, Gina Wilson and Rachel McKay. Other members of the profession assisted in providing challenging scenarios to help the students prepare for the international competition. Nineteen countries participated in the final and an estimated 5,000 students globally took part in the heats for the competition. Eileen Paterson, director (operations) said: "I am absolutely delighted that our students have raised the profile of the University of Glasgow and Scotland in this global competition. It has not only developed the skills and knowledge of those who competed in the competition in Windsor, but everyone who took part will have improved their interviewing skills which will benefit clients and the profession in the future.
We attended the Law Awards of Scotland 2015 Awards Ceremony which was held on 3rd September 2015 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow.
McSherry Halliday is delighted to be nominated for two categories in the Law Awards of Scotland 2015.
It is with deep sadness that we have to announce the sudden death on 13th April 2015 of our Senior Partner, Jeff Halliday. Jeff was a huge inspiration to all who worked with him over the years and he will be sorely missed. The following was the eulogy delivered by his Partner James Morrison at the funeral which took place on 22nd April 2015.
For 2 weeks in October we have agreed to waive our normal fee and write Wills free of charge. Instead of paying our solicitor’s fee, you will be invited to make a donation to the Hospice.
